Hed's demanding, discerning, and fat-loving customers have spoken: They love our Big Deal and B.F.D. carbon rims. Nothing else offers the same combination of easy tubeless setup, stiffness, and jaw-dropping weight savings. They're utterly fat-tastic.
In an effort to bring the advantages of Big Deal technology to an even wider audience, our engineers worked hard to apply the same principles to an aluminum platform.
Enter: the Big Aluminum Deal. At 80mm wide, the B.A.D. offers superb fit with all common fat bike tire sizes. It has the same Inflatobam tubeless technology as its carbon brethren - saving over a pound in inner tubes alone. Available as a rim-only, or as a complete wheel set with our new Brick House fat hubs.
The B.A.D. is available as a rim-only, or as a complete wheel using Hed Brickhouse hubs, or Industry 9 hubs. Customers may also send in their own hubs for custom builds (see below for further info). The B.A.D. is built with bladed steel spokes and Pillar alloy nipples.
NOTE: In order to send hubs to us for a custom build, the dealer will need to call 651-653-0202 for an RA number. Hed isn't responsible for lost hubs that are sent without an RA number. Please don't send skewers, cassettes, or other small parts that are unnecessary for the wheel build. Allow 2-3 weeks for turn around.
Spoke count: 32, center-drilled only
Rim Diameters: 24" and 26"
- Do NOT use tire levers on B.A.D. rims!
- For all types of bicycle wheels, a hard strike on the rim is likely to result in rim damage. At the point of impact, an aluminum rim will dent, and a carbon rim may delaminate - both are unsafe conditions that require rim replacement.
In this Hed Tech Talk, we cover the fine details of how to install tubeless tires on our fat-tastic Big Deal rims. These instructions apply to all current models that we offer: -The 85mm-wide Big Deal carbon -The 100mm-wide B.F.D. carbon -The 80mm-wide B.A.D. (Big Aluminum Deal) All of these wheels feature our Inflatobam rim shaping and technology. In the event that your tires don’t fit quite tight enough to inflate, we also include our proprietary Inflatobands with each rim, which are giant rubber bands intended to reduce the gap between your tire and rim, for easier initial inflation. If you’re old school and like to use inner tubes, you can do that too, and nobody will be mad (but you should use Gorilla Tape to cover up the spoke nipples – so you don’t puncture the tube). NOTE: You will need an air compressor for tubeless inflation. If you use tubes, a floor pump will work just dandy. BIG NOTE: DO NOT USE TIRE LEVERS ON OUR BIG DEAL RIMS! You don’t need them, and they can damage the rim. Find more Hed Tech Talks at this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj8G1vwwVp6hjvTwO1CmOxA
